Terms of Service

Last updated: 22 July 2026

These terms govern your use of Ghostwritten (ghostwrittenbook.com) and any book you commission. By placing an order you agree to them.

The service

We write an original, full-length manuscript to your brief and deliver it as a formatted .docx and .epub, with an original cover, a back-cover blurb, keywords and a short editorial notes document. Lengths run from 5,000 to 120,000 words. Your delivery date is shown to you before you pay.

You may commission a single book or a series of two to six linked books. A series shares its world, its recurring characters and its continuity, and the books are delivered together as a set.

Ordering and your account

You do not need to create an account or set a password to order. We use the email address you give us at checkout to open a private project page for you and send you a sign-in link. That link is how you reach your files, your delivery date and your messages, so please use an address you can access. If you already have an account, your order is added to it.

Changing your brief

After payment you have 48 hours to change anything in your brief before writing begins. Once that window closes, writing starts and the brief is fixed.

Corrections after delivery

Every order includes a 5-day review window from the moment we deliver, and the window restarts each time we re-deliver.

Within that window, corrections to the cover, the subtitle or the keywords are unlimited. Requests that mean re-writing the book itself are more substantial, and we include up to two of those per commission. If you need more than that, or you ask for something after the window has closed, we will not simply refuse you. We will look at it and tell you plainly whether it is something we can absorb or something we would need to quote for.

Ownership and rights

On full payment, you own all rights to the finished book. It is yours to publish, sell and profit from under your own name or a pen name. We claim no royalties, take no credit, and never resell or reuse your manuscript.

Your responsibilities

You confirm that the ideas, materials and any files you upload are yours to use and do not infringe anyone else’s rights. You are responsible for how you publish and sell the finished work, including meeting the rules of whichever store you publish through.

Price

The founding rate is $13.99 per 1,000 words, held for our first 25 commissions. After that the standard rate of $25.99 per 1,000 words applies. The standard rate is a future price, not a former one: it is what later customers will pay, and we do not present it as a discount off anything. Priority delivery and series pricing are optional and shown at checkout. You always see the full price and the delivery date before you pay. Payment is taken up front through Stripe.

Cancellation and refunds

You may cancel for any reason within 48 hours of ordering and receive a full refund, because writing has not started yet. Contact us and we will process it.

Once writing has begun we do not offer cash refunds, because each book is written for one person and cannot be resold to anyone else. What you get instead is the review window above, with corrections until the book is right.

If we miss the delivery date shown to you at checkout by more than seven days, you may cancel and we will refund you in full, whatever stage the book has reached.

If a payment is refunded or charged back, we stop work on that order and it is cancelled.

Confidentiality

Your project is private. We do not publish, resell or share your manuscript, and we do not name you as a client. If you leave us a review, nothing you write is published unless you explicitly tick the box asking us to, and we can unpublish it at any time on request. See our Privacy Policy for how your data is handled.

When we may decline or stop work

We may decline or stop a commission, with a full refund of anything not yet written, if the request is unlawful, infringes someone else’s rights, or asks us to produce material we are not willing to write. We will tell you why.

Liability

We deliver the book described in your brief. We cannot promise any particular sales, earnings, rankings or reviews once you publish, and nothing on this site should be read as a promise of income. To the extent the law allows, our liability for any claim relating to an order is limited to what you paid for that order.

Changes

We may update these terms from time to time, and the “last updated” date above will change. The terms that apply to your order are the ones in force on the day you placed it.
